David William Gerald Mills

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of David Mills, at the Kirkland Lake Hospital on October 22, 2025 at the age of 79 years, after a short illness.

Born in Larder Lake, Ontario to Harvey and Nellie Mills, he grew up there before settling in Englehart and later moving to Vermilion, Alberta, where he lived for 30 years. After his wife, Jean Delaney, passed in 2021, he lived with his youngest sister, Judy Mills, in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, until his own passing.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sons Bernie (Brenda) Mills, Dwayne (Helen) Mills, Calvin (Stephanie) Mills, Robert (Melissa) Mills, and Kenny Moreau; stepchildren Cindy (Dean) Usenik, Christina (Roy), and Quentin Delaney; grandchildren Kayla, Matthew, Warren, Evan, Kayla, Devan, Jacob, Makenzie, Cameron, Reilly, Dezeray, Abbygail, Dalilah, Sammi, Avery, Kenny, Christopher, Ashley, Rene, Chris, and Nathanael, along with their spouses; siblings George (Mary) Mills, Ivy (Dave) Cook, and Judy Mills; as well as numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, & friends.

 He was predeceased by his wife Jean Delaney; parents Harvey & Nellie Mills; and siblings Irene Mills and Christina (Normand) Lalonde.

Dave spent many years working in construction and was a transport driver, long haul truck driver, pilot truck driver, and security guard at Lakeland College, where he worked with Jean.

After he retired, he enjoyed camping, quadding (4 wheeling), mudbogging, fishing and hunting. He and Jean also enjoyed the trip to Ontario every year in July, where they won many trophies.

His Tim Horton’s order was always a medium decaf double double and he would spend much of his time there reminiscing with old friends. He also would tour the countryside while doing his errands and stopped frequently at family and friends homesteads to visit.

Cremation has taken place at Buffam Leveille Funeral Home. Dave's wishes half of his ashes to be laid to rest in Vermillion, Alberta with Jean Delaney and the remainder to laid to rest in Ontario.

There will be a Celebration of Life in the spring for family and friends. A date will be announced.

The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Blanche River Health Services at Kirkland Lake Hospital for the exceptional care while he was there.
